Amit Shah at 69th National Convention of ABVP https://www.newsx.com/amit-shah-at-69th-national-convention-of-abvp/ Fri, 08 Dec 2023 08:54:52 +0000 https://www.newsx.com/?p=760529 Amit Shah at the 69th National Convention of the ABVP: “I am an organic product of Vidyarthi Parishad”

December 8, New Delhi, India: Union Minister Amit Shah declared, “I am an organic product of Vidyarthi Parishad,” and praised the Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad for its journey.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah was present at the opening ceremony of the 69th Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) National Convention.
“I want to say without hesitation that I am an organic product of Vidyarthi Parishad. Few organizations, even among student bodies, can boast of a journey as enduring and impactful as ours – seventy-five years strong and unwavering in our commitment to fulfilling the goals and objectives of the Vidyarthi Parishad,” said Amit Shah at the inaugural event of the 69th National Convention of Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
“Students are inherently young and energetic, brimming with passion, sometimes to the point of losing sight of the path. Yet, the Vidyarthi Parishad has remained steadfast, its organizational structure so strong and well-maintained that it has neither strayed from its path. The organizational system of the Vidyarthi Parishad remained so strong and well maintained that neither did the Vidyarthi Parishad lose its way in seventy-five years, nor did it allow the government to lose its way, nor did it allow the society to lose its way.” added Amit Shah.
Amit Shah said that the Vidyarthi Parishad fought on many occasions.
“The Vidyarthi Parishad fought on many occasions. By imbibing its basic mantra of knowledge, modesty and unity, it patiently paved a path and the workers of Vidyarthi Parishad struggled with every challenge that came in front of the country, in front of the education world and in front of the borders of the country. Have done. This will be written in golden letters in the history of the country,” said Amit Shah.
“ABVP says – Be it Kashmir or Guwahati, our country is our soil. Today I say that Kashmir is ours and North East is also ours, ” added the Union Minister.
Amit Shah recalled his days when he participated in the Rajkot convention as a worker of ABVP.
“I will not be able to explain to you how proud I am to be present here today as the chief guest of the national convention. Only that person can experience this, who started by sitting at the end of the pandal in the Rajkot convention and is standing here today as the chief guest,” said Amit Shah.
“In front of every challenge, the Student Council stands strong like the Himalayas and solves that problem,” Amit Shah said.

CJI DY Chandrachud on reforming SC’s Collegium system https://www.newsx.com/cji-dy-chandrachud-on-reforming-scs-collegium-system/ Fri, 08 Dec 2023 08:49:28 +0000 https://www.newsx.com/?p=760527 Regarding the restructuring of the SC Collegium system, CJI DY Chandrachud states, “I myself am a servant of law and Constitution.”

India’s New Delhi December 8: The Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, responded that he is a “servant of the law and the Constitution” and must abide by the rulings set forth by the law when a lawyer on Friday urged him to consider changing the Supreme Court’s Collegium system and system of designating advocates as seniors.
“You are free to follow your passions as an attorney. However, I serve the law and the Constitution in my capacity as a judge. “I must adhere to the legal stance established by law,” CJI informed the attorney. The CJI made this comment after advocate Mathews J. Nedumpara informed him that a few people had taken advantage of the Collegium system and the senior designation process, and that he needed to consider reforming these processes.
Even though CJI brought about a lot of reforms, he claimed that in order to advance the judiciary to new heights, reforms pertaining to senior designation and the Collegium were crucial.
Nedumpara has also submitted separate appeals challenging the senior designation system for advocates and the current process for selecting judges.
In addition, he argued for the elimination of the Collegium system, which selects judges for the Supreme Court and the High Courts.

TMC MP Nusrat Jahan on Cash for Query report https://www.newsx.com/tmc-mp-nusrat-jahan-on-cash-for-query-report/ Fri, 08 Dec 2023 08:44:30 +0000 https://www.newsx.com/?p=760523 TMC MP Nusrat Jahan on Cash for Query report: “Mahua needs to have a chance to speak for herself”

December 8, New Delhi, India—After the Ethics Committee’s report, which called for Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra to be expelled in a “Cash-for-query” case, was presented to the Lok Sabha, TMC MP Nusrat Jahan publicly defended her party colleague and stated that Moitra should be given the chance to speak for herself because she is the one most impacted by this situation.
TMC MP from Basirhat questioned the Ethics panel’s investigation, accusing the Modi administration of lacking compassion for women in this nation.
Nusrat Jahan said, “Has it actually been fairly conducted? We don’t know. Because this Government hasn’t been really fair when it comes to women. We have asked for a hard copy of the report. Our leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay has asked for it.”
“After studying the report, we can come to a conclusion and when the discussion happens, we have all requested that Mahua be given an opportunity to speak for herself and say whatever she feels because she is the most affected in this case,” she added.
Earlier, Bharatiya Janata Party MP and Ethics Committee chairperson Vinod Kumar laid on the table the first Report (Hindi and English versions) of the Committee on Ethics. The House was adjourned till 2 PM amid a ruckus created by the opposition leader.
Stating that the report was adopted in a hurry without following the correct procedure, BSP MP Danish Ali, who is a member of the Ethics Committee said, “We are demanding a discussion on the report because the discussions were incomplete even at the Ethics Committee. Deposition of the one against whom allegations have been made was not complete.”
“The kind of questions that were asked of her were such that five members of the committee walked out. After that walkout, the adoption report was put forth and it was adopted within two and half a minutes. Having a majority doesn’t mean that you will do whatever you want,” the BSP MP said.
The Ethics Committee, which investigated the allegations made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, adopted its 500-page report on November 9 recommending Moitra’s expulsion from the 17th Lok Sabha in view of her “highly objectionable, unethical, heinous and criminal conduct.
Last month, the panel adopted the draft report with a 6:4 majority.
The draft report on Moitra’s cash-for-questions case, according to the sources, shows that she traveled to the UAE four times between 2019 and 2023, during which time her login was accessed multiple times.
The report was approved by six panel members, one of whom was the Congress MP Preneet Kaur, who is currently suspended. Dissent notes were submitted by four opposition party panel members. The opposition members referred to the report as a “fixed match” and said that there was not a single “shred of evidence” to back up Dubey’s complaint, which the panel had examined.
Only if the House votes to approve the panel’s recommendation can Moitra be removed.

UPI Transaction limit raised https://www.newsx.com/upi-transaction-limit-raised/ Fri, 08 Dec 2023 07:47:43 +0000 https://www.newsx.com/?p=760521 The Rs 5 lakh UPI transaction limit was raised for hospitals and educational institutions

Maharashtra’s Mumbai December 8, India: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has increased the maximum amount that can be transferred via UPI to hospitals and educational institutions from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh per transaction.
Following a three-day meeting of the monetary policy committee, the RBI increased the UPI transaction limit and announced that this would facilitate higher-value online payments by consumers for healthcare and education.
The RBI periodically examines the limits for different UPI transaction categories.
India’s mobile-based fast payment system, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), enables users to make instantaneous, round-the-clock payments using a Virtual Payment Address (VPA) that they have created. It has become hugely popular for retail digital payments in India, and its adoption is increasing at a rapid pace.
India has emerged as one of the fastest-growing ecosystems for fintech innovation and the government and the central bank have been instrumental in driving the globalisation of India’s digital payment infrastructure.
A key emphasis of the Indian government has been on ensuring that the benefits of UPI are not limited to India alone; other countries, too, benefit from it.
So far, several countries, including Sri Lanka, France, the UAE, and Singapore, have partnered with India on emerging fintech and payment solutions.
The RBI today announced plans to increase the cap on recurring payments made through e-mandates to Rs 1 lakh per transaction.
The beneficiaries are those who make regular payments for credit card repayments, insurance premium subscriptions, and mutual fund subscriptions.
According to the RBI, the new initiative will hasten the use of e-mandates even more.
“Customers are increasingly using e-Mandates to make recurring payments. In his monetary policy statement, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das stated that “per this framework, an additional factor of authentication (AFA) is currently required for recurring transactions exceeding Rs 15,000.”

The Lok Sabha received a report from the Ethics Committee https://www.newsx.com/the-lok-sabha-received-a-report-from-the-ethics-committee/ Fri, 08 Dec 2023 06:59:46 +0000 https://www.newsx.com/?p=760519 The Lok Sabha received a report from the Ethics Committee on TMC MP Mahua Moitra; the House was adjourned until 2:00 PM.

December 8, New Delhi, India: The chair of the Ethics Committee, BJP MP Vijay Sonkar, presented the report on TMC MP Mahua Moitra to the Lok Sabha on Friday.
In the Lower House, Rajendra Agarwal was presiding over the meeting. Opponents led by Trinamool Congress members chanted ‘Modi Sarkar Haye Haye’ and held placards criticizing the central government.
Amid the ruckus created by the opposition, the House was adjourned till 2 PM.
The report was mentioned in the agenda of the list of business of Lok Sabha for the opening day of the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament. However, it could not be taken up.
Earlier before the commencement of the session, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra said that now the people will see the battle of Mahabharata.
Speaking to the media, Mahua said “Mother Durga has arrived, we will see. These people who have started snatching clothes will now see the battle of Mahabharata.”
Mahua Moitra is facing the heat of the “cash-for-query” allegations against her. The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee recently recommended her expulsion from the Lower House.
The draft report was adopted by a 6:4 majority in the panel last month.
As per the sources, the draft report on Mahua Moitra’s cash-for-questions case reveals that she visited the UAE four times from 2019 to 2023 while her login was accessed several times.”On 47 occasions, her member portal login credentials were accessed from Dubai,” sources said citing the draft report of the ethics committee.
Reacting to the oppositon demands to hold debates and discussions on the Ethics Panel report which is being tabled in Lok Sabha today, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Friday asked why the opposition has already decided on what action the Lok Sabha Speaker would take against TMC Mahua Moitra in the alleged “cash-for-query” case.
“Whether it will be discussed or not, who will speak on it – all of this will be decided by the Speaker. That is what the rules say. So how will the Speaker act on this issue, why are we anticipating that? The Constitution is clear on this issue. Whatever will happen in the House is the prerogative of the Speaker. If the party nominates my name on the issue and the Speaker goes against this, then I won’t be able to speak. Let it be done first (tabling of report), I will answer all the questions after that,” Nishikant Dubey told reporters.
The Ethics Committee, which investigated the allegations made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, adopted its 500-page report on November 9 recommending Moitra’s expulsion from the 17th Lok Sabha in view of her “highly objectionable, unethical, heinous and criminal conduct.”
On November 2, Moitra appeared before the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee regarding the accusations of receiving cash in exchange for a question. She had “walked out” of the meeting with the panelists who were in opposition. Members of the opposition who served on the Ethics Committee questioned the line of questioning and claimed that the MP for the Trinamool Congress was asked “personal questions”.
Mahua Moitra, a Trinamool Lok Sabha MP, had earlier on November 10 claimed that the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee, which was looking into her involvement in the “Cash for Query” case, was acting in a manner akin to a “Kangaroo” court.

Controversy rocked the Maharashtra government https://www.newsx.com/controversy-rocked-the-maharashtra-government/ Fri, 08 Dec 2023 06:43:02 +0000 https://www.newsx.com/?p=760517 Ajit Pawar says, “I’ll make my point after Nawab Malik makes his position official,” as controversy rocked the Maharashtra government

December 8, Nagpur, Maharashtra, India: In response to a letter from Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis opposing Nawab Malik’s induction into the state’s ruling alliance, fellow Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar of the NCP rival faction wrote back, stating he would make his case once Malik had formally taken a stance.
“The letter from Fadnavis reached me. I will first make my case after learning Nawab Malik’s official stance. The speaker of the Assembly assigns seats; I have no say in the matter,” Ajit Pawar stated.
The controversy over Nawab Malik allegedly aligning with Ajit Pawar continues to be a sore point between the alliance partners in Maharashtra.
NCP-Ajit Pawar Faction leader Amol Mitkari said that Nawab Malik has been the party’s spokesperson and a senior leader and the senior leaders of the party will clear their stance on it.
“The sitting arrangement is made by the government. If the legislative assembly Speaker has made the sitting arrangement, then I believe that he must know more about it. Nawab Malik has been the party’s spokesperson and a senior leader now. Our State President of NCP Sunil Tatkare made the stance clear yesterday. I met Ajit Pawar just before this, he or the senior leaders of the party will clear their stance on it” said NCP-Ajit Pawar Faction leader Amol Mitkari.
Ajit Pawar faction leader Sunil Tatkare on Thursday had said that Nawab Malik was only an old political associate and no formal discussions on joining the faction had been held with him.
“Nawab Malik is our senior colleague for many years. After he was granted bail on the issue of illness, we met as old colleagues to inquire about his health. We have not had any political discussion with them. After coming to the assembly today, it is only natural that he interacts and meets with old colleagues ” Tatkare had said.
UBT Sena leader Sanjay Raut however said that the devlopments were just a pretence and that other Ajit faction leaders also faced strong allegations.
“The Deputy Chief Minister of the state wrote a letter to the second Deputy Chief Minister. In Nagpur, both of them are sitting together in the House and are writing letters and corresponding. There are such allegations against Nawab Malik, this is a farce, if they want they can stand up and tell Nawab Malik, all this is a pretence. BJP is indulging in this farce time and again. There is an allegation of Rs 70 thousand crores against Ajit Pawar ji, Praful Patel’s property has been confiscated, in the same manner as the allegation made against Nawab Malik” Sanjay Raut said.
Speaking on Devendra Fadanvis’ letter, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said, “Fadnavis should be asked his opinion on Praful Patel and Hasan Mushrif or Ajit Pawar all of whom face allegations of corruption. Many mebers of the Ajit Pawar group like Pratap Sarnaiik and Bhavana gawli also face allegation, how are they part of the BJP alliance. If it was an issue of morality you would not have formed the government with them. Why attack only Nawab Malik?”
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi termed CM Devendra Fadnavis’s letter as ‘hypocrisy”.
“This is hypocrisy. There is a vast difference between their words and actions…This hypocrisy is because they are drunk on power. The public can see the compromises that the BJP did in Maharashtra for power. The public can see the betrayal that Eknath Shinde did to his party. The public can see all that Ajit Pawar did to give himself a clean chit. So, this letter is hypocrisy” Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said.
Meanwhile, Jayant Patil of the Sharad Pawar faction claimed the letter by the Deputy CM Fadnavis was only a way to inform the people that Nawab Malik had become part of the alliance.
“He (Nawab Malik) came to Vidhan Sabha and was sitting on the ruling party’s side. So, the BJP wrote this letter as a way of offering an explanation to the people (for the split in the NCP). Instead of sending a letter to Ajit Pawar, he (Fadnavis) could have just called and informed him. I think this letter was the government’s way of giving an explanation of Malik’s induction to the ruling alliance to the people of Maharashtra,” Patil told reporters in Nagpur.
Fadnavis on Thursday wrote to his cabinet colleague and NCP leader Ajit Pawar, expressing opposition to the induction of Malik in the ruling ‘Maha Yuti’ or grand alliance in the state.
“Given that he is an accused (in a money laundering case), we are of the opinion that it would not be proper to induct him into the ruling alliance. Power comes and goes but the country is paramount,” Fadnavis had said.
“We agree that it is your prerogative (to decide) who should be inducted in your party. But every constituent (in the Maha Yuti) has to think as to whether it would harm the alliance,” Fadnavis said, adding, “Hence, we are opposed to this”.
Malik was detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in February 2022 as part of a money-laundering investigation connected to the whereabouts of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim and his associates. He is currently free on medical bail.
At the time of his arrest, Malik was a cabinet minister in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government headed by Uddhav Thackeray. For the first time since his release on Thursday, Malik attended the Maharashtra Assembly’s Winter Session in this location.
He was seated next to the MLAs of the Nationalist Congress Party faction led by Ajit Pawar on the final bench in the assembly.

RBI maintains its inflation forecast and increases India’s GDP growth https://www.newsx.com/rbi-maintains-its-inflation-forecast-and-increases-indias-gdp-growth/ Fri, 08 Dec 2023 06:25:34 +0000 https://www.newsx.com/?p=760515 RBI maintains its inflation forecast and increases India’s GDP growth estimates for 2023–2024 in response to solid Q2 results

Mumbai Maharashtra December 8, India: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) increased the country’s GDP growth forecast for the fiscal year 2023–24 by 50 basis points to 7% while keeping the key policy rate unchanged. The RBI predicted 6.5% growth in 2023–24 during its October meeting.
This upward revision follows India’s announcement of higher-than-expected growth for the July-September quarter.
The Indian economy grew 7.6 per cent during the July-September quarter of the current financial year 2023-24, remaining the fastest-growing major economy. India’s GDP growth for the April-June quarter grew 7.8 per cent.
Q3 growth is projected at 6.5 per cent; and Q4 at 6.0 per cent. Real GDP growth for Q1:2024- 25 is projected at 6.7 per cent; Q2 at 6.5 per cent; and Q3 at 6.4 per cent, with risks evenly balanced.
Strong rabi crops sowing–two-thirds have been completed despite the late harvest of kharif crops in some states; manufacturing sector is gaining strength with easing input cost pressures; and a pick-up in demand conditions, according to RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, are some of the reasons for the revision in 2023-24 growth projections.
“Festival related demand is also spurring households’ discretionary consumption in Q3.13 Investment activity continues to be aided by buoyancy in public sector capex. This is also reflected in the strong growth in steel consumption, cement production and imports of capital goods. Capacity utilisation (CU) in the manufacturing sector continues to remain above the long period average,” Das said.
The RBI monetary policy committee earlier today unanimously decided to keep the policy repo rate unchanged at 6.5 per cent, thus maintaining status quo for the fifth straight occasions.
While deliberating the policy statement Friday morning, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das attributed declining inflation as the reason behind maintaining the status quo policy stance.
Retail inflation in India continued to ease through October, supported by a relative decline in some of the sub-indexes. The October consumer price index (CPI) came at a four-month low of 4.87 per cent against 5.02 per cent the previous month. Retail inflation in India though, is in RBI’s 2-6 per cent comfort level but is above the ideal 4 per cent scenario.
Das said the MPC also decided by a majority of 5 out of 6 members to remain focused on withdrawal of accommodation to ensure that inflation progressively aligns to the target, while supporting growth.
The three-day bi-monthly monetary policy committee (MPC) meeting of the RBI began on Wednesday. The RBI typically conducts six bimonthly meetings in a financial year, where it deliberates interest rates, money supply, inflation outlook, and various macroeconomic indicators.
For the fourth straight occasion, the monetary policy committee, through its October review meeting, unanimously kept the policy repo rate unchanged at 6.5 per cent, thus maintaining the status quo.
The repo rate is the rate of interest at which RBI lends to other banks.
A relative decline in inflation, barring the latest spike, and its potential for further decline may have prompted the central bank to put the brake on the key interest rate. Inflation has been a concern for many countries, including advanced economies, but India has largely managed to steer its inflation trajectory quite well.
Barring the latest pauses, the RBI raised the repo rate by 250 basis points cumulatively to 6.5 per cent since May 2022 in the fight against inflation. Raising interest rates is a monetary policy instrument that typically helps suppress demand in the economy, thereby helping the inflation rate decline.
In his address today, Governor Das maintained India’s retail inflation projections for 2023-24 at 5.4 per cent, with with Q3 at 5.6 per cent and Q4 at 5.2 per cent. CPI inflation for Q1:2024-25 is projected at 5.2 per cent; Q2 at 4.0 per cent; and Q3 at 4.7 per cent, with risks evenly balanced.
Positively, the price of commodities has decreased globally, especially those related to agriculture, with the exception of rice. 19 International prices are still soft for food items like edible oils that are heavily dependent on imports. The price of milk is stabilizing domestically. The government’s proactive supply-side measures are also reducing pressure on domestic food prices. Although crude oil has significantly decreased in volatility, Das predicted inflation rates.
The risks associated with food inflation, however, obscure the near-term outlook and could cause inflation to spike in November and December. If there are any second-round effects, they should be monitored.”

New Delhi, December 8, India: Mahua Moitra, a member of the Trinamool Congress, stated that the people will now witness the Mahabharata battle as the Ethics Committee’s report in the purported “cash-for-query” case is set to be presented in the Lok Sabha today.
Mahua told the press, “Mother Durga has arrived, we shall see. These individuals who have begun stealing clothing will witness the Mahabharata battle at this time.”
“Destruction befalls a person, conscience dies first,” (Jab Naash Manuj par chaata hai, pehle vivek mar jaata hai) is a famous poem by former Rajya Sabha member Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, which she also quoted.
“Chairperson Vinod Kumar Sonkar and Aparajita Sarangi to lay on the Table the First Report (Hindi and of the Committee on Ethics,” the agenda released by Lok Sabha read.
The report was mentioned in the agenda of the list of business of Lok Sabha for the opening day of the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament. However, it could not be taken up.
The draft report was adopted by a 6:4 majority in the panel last month.
As per the sources, the draft report on Mahua Moitra’s cash-for-questions case reveals that she visited the UAE four times from 2019 to 2023 while her login was accessed several times.
“On 47 occasions, her member portal login credentials were accessed from Dubai,” sources said citing the draft report of the ethics committee.
The TMC has demanded that the MP Mahua Moitra be given a chance to put forth her defence. TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay said, “I spoke with the Speaker, and he said that this committee report along with other reports will be tabled. I said that TMC MP Mahua Moitra should be given a chance to speak…”
Earlier, MP Aparajita Sarangi who is part of the Ethics Committee said, ” The Committee has already submitted its comprehensive report to Lok Sabha Speaker. Once it is tabled, we wouldn’t mind any kind of discussion. We are always open to any kind of discussion…I think the report is very comprehensive and everything has to be taken into account, including the content of the affidavit of Darshan Hiranandani. So, I think the Speaker has to take a call on that.”
Congress member K Suresh stated on Friday that if the Ethics Committee’s report, which is scheduled to be presented in Parliament today, suggests that TMC member Mahua Moitra be removed from the Lok Sabha, his party will not support the move.
Chief Whip of the Congress Lok Sabha, K Suresh, said to ANI, “Today is the tabled report of the Ethics Committee. It is already listed on the Lok Sabha’s List of Business. Watch to see what report they plan to present to the House. We will fight the report tooth and nail if it calls for TMC MP Mahua Moitra to be expelled.”
