On Monday morning, Noida’s air quality was assessed as ‘poor’ with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 204. According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR-India), the current concentration of PM 2.5 in Noida was 5.2 times higher than the recommended limit set by the WHO’s 24-hour air quality guidelines.
Simultaneously, the Air Quality Index also decreased in Ghaziabad. SAFAR data revealed that the air quality index in the Loni area reached 229.
The Air Quality Index is a tool used to communicate air quality conditions effectively to the public in a straightforward manner. It consists of six categories: Good + Satisfactory, Moderately polluted, Poor, Very Poor, and Severe. These categories are determined based on ambient concentration levels of air pollutants and their potential health impacts, known as health breakpoints.
According to the AQI scale, air quality falls into the following categories: 0-50 is considered “good,” 51-100 is “satisfactory,” 101-200 is “moderate,” 201-300 is “poor,” 301-400 is “very poor,” and 401-450 is “severe,” with “severe+” applying when the AQI surpasses 450.
